Commission proposes simplified registration rules for the F-gases portal

On 21 May, the European Commission proposed a new Regulation (along with a Staff Working Document) which would simplify several EU laws, including the F-gas Regulation.

The proposal suggests changes to the F-gas Portal registration rules for importers and exporters of products and equipment containing F-gases. Importers who do not exceed certain annual F-gas thresholds, which are also relevant for company reporting, will no longer be required to register. Meanwhile, exporters would only need to register if their products and equipment are subject to export restrictions. The registration of traders in bulk F-gas would remain unaffected.

These new rules, which aim to reduce administrative burden without impacting EU climate goals, will only take effect upon adoption by the European Parliament and Council of the EU.
